MADELINE GARDNER MERYASH

Award winning artist, Madeline Gardner Meryash, grew up in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts in a large artistic family. The sixth of fourteen children, she began painting in earnest in the late 1990’s and has never looked back. While largely self-taught, shestudied with classically trained artists through Grand Central Atelier in New York City. Her preferred style is contemporary classical realism. She works primarily in oil and of late, almost exclusively from life. Recently, she has created paintings done on water gilded panels using the same method that was used during the Renaissance to create icon paintings. These are technically complex paintings on panel that require the use of rabbit skin glue, calcium carbonate, clay bole and 23kt gold. The paintings are unique in how they reflect light. Meryash does not restrict her subject matter and often finds inspiration in everyday life. She enjoys working plein air and often creates oil sketches to be used later in larger landscape paintings.

Madeline Meryash is an award winning member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City where she regularly shows her work. She is also an elected artist member of the Academic Artist’s Association and the American Artist’s Professional League. She has won dozens of awards for her paintings both regionally and nationally.
