Lee Riggs
Lee Riggs was born and raised in Europe and grew up living and traveling around the world, which inspired a lifelong interest in the arts. After graduating from George Washington University and pursuing a career as a professional editor, and published songwriter for the television industry, she continued her education in fine art at several academic institutions, including Maryland College of Art and Design and Rhode Island School of Design. While she initially worked in watercolor and acrylics, her more recent work has been predominantly in oil. Riggs’ paintings portray a variety of subjects culled from her travels and local forays, many in Newport where she resides. Whether the subject is a seascape or landscape in Newport, a garden in Giverny, or a courtyard in Mexico, her main interest is in capturing the effects of light on the color, atmosphere, and emotional impact of the subject.
Riggs has been represented by galleries in New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, and her work has been published by a leading greeting card company. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections, including Merck Corp headquarters in New Jersey and her home-portrait renderings have been sold as corporate gifts by real estate companies.
Riggs is also a certified Expressive Arts Facilitator who has conducted numerous art therapy workshops in Rhode Island. Her time is divided between painting, therapy, and songwriting
