Paul Montecalvo
Paul Montecalvo was born on May 30, 1945, a native New Englander, who grew up in a quaint town in Massachusetts. With the desire to become a commercial artist, he attended Art Institute of Boston for four years, and received a degree in Advertising Design. Upon graduation he served four years in the U.S. Air Force, as an illustrator. From 1972 to 1988 he was employed as a medical artist in Tampa, Florida. During this time he enrolled in Hillsborough Community College, and received a degree in Media Technology.
It was during this time he found the love for photography, and chose concert photography as a sideline to his medical artist job. As the years past a quieter atmosphere captured his interest. With his love for New England and its coastline, he found himself traveling extendedly, seeking rural remote areas, and capturing on film memorable moments of a world that so many never see.
His work reflects his artistic background through his meticulous composition, natural lighting, and use of color, creating a mood as if one might actually be there. His photographs have life! His latest works reflect a graphic, but serene, soft style. Many times his work is thought to be a painting.
In the past eighteen years, Paul has received many awards for his photographs that have been exhibited in juried art exhibitions nationwide. His work is among private e and corporate collections in the U.S., and foreign lands. He has numerous works that has been published. A future goal is to publish a book showcasing the New England area, and its majestic beauty.
Paul uses a Zone VI, 4X5 view camera, and MAMYIA 645 system. His film choice is Kodacolor 100, and VHC. He prints all images individually, using Kodak papers, and chemistry. [RA4 process]. All photographs are signed and limited.
