Robert Moore was born in Bristol, England in 1945. He drew his inspiration from the local dockyards and sailing activities from an early age. He started making models and drawing ships at age eight. Moore continued his love of marine painting throughout his youth, becoming a professional painter soon after completing his education.

His first one-man show was held in Bristol in 1962 and over the next twenty years he exhibited at the Clifton Gallery in Bristol. Moore has had many one-man exhibitions and mixed shows in the UK, Cardiff, Appledore, Winchester, Norfolk and Cowes. He has exhibited around the world including New Zealand, Singapore and Germany. Moore has also exhibited for many years at the Royal Society of Marine artists at the Mall Galleries in London. He is included in the book; 20th Century Marine Painting by Dennis Brook-Hart and the Dictionary of Sea Painters by EHH Archibald.
